Better Retro Photo Shoot

I’ve uploaded a new album to www.chrismartinez.co.uk called “Better Retro Photo Shoot”

This is my first set of studio work and in general im pretty happy with the results (let me know what you think too).  I think a softbox would help as I did struggle a little with lighting and there are a few unwanted shadows that still remain despite my best efforts in Photoshop.  The album contains a selection of the images i took for Better Retro, a vintage fashion retailer based in Hull.

The images were taken in April 2010 with the Canon EOS 7D using the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS with a Canon Speedlite 430EX flash that was remotely triggered by the 7D as well as 2 tungsten lamps for additional lighting.

Evening All, quite a few people have been asking how I shot my Magic Banana Picture.

Magic Banana

I thought rather than replying to individuals I would post  the detail here on how I did it so you can have a go yourself, if you have enough patience, spare time and cocktail sticks, as well as a very understanding Fiancée

It’s a fairly easy set up to be honest that involves cheating in Photoshop (as you might expect!).  The shot was set up in my home made light box made out of foam board and an A1 sheet of glossy white card.  Essentially everything is prepared and then held in place with cocktail sticks

Magic Banana...Revealed

The image was taken with my Canon EOS 7D and 50mm f/1.8 at f/5.6 for 1/250 sec at ISO 100 with the Canon Speedlite 430EX at 1/16th power just out of frame, triggered remotely from the camera

Then it was just a case of a quick exposure and contrast tweak in Adobe Lightroom before opening the image in Photoshop and using the clone stamp to remove the cocktail sticks and the shadows they cast.

This was the first time ive tried anything like this and overall im happy with the effect.

Miniature Cows and a Banana

I’ve uploaded a new album to www.chrismartinez.co.uk called “Miniature Cows and a Banana”

The pictures were taken in March 2010 with the Canon EOS 7D using the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 mounted on a Manfrotto 190XB tripod with a Canon Speedlite 430EX flash that was remotely triggered by the 7D.

These are the first pictures I’ve taken in my home made light box that was inspired by this article over at DIY Photography

Weekend at the Farm

I’ve uploaded a new album to www.chrismartinez.co.uk called “Weekend at the Farm”

The pictures were taken in March 2010 with the Canon EOS 7D using the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC and Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM mounted on a Manfrotto 190XB tripod.

The pictures were taken just outside Ripon, North Yorkshire and are a selection of mainly portraits and landscapes from a weekends shooting.

Evening All.  After a weekend of hard work I have redesigned my website www.chrismartinez.co.uk.  I now have this blog on the site too which I will use to tell the world about new content on my site including new photo albums and equipment reviews (in the not so distant future) as well as interesting bit’s and pieces I find out there on the web, mainly relating to photography, but also other topical things of interest.

Hopefully you like the new look of the site.  Any feedback or comments you have on the site in general or my photographs would be much appreciated.

Winter Afternoon in York

Bookilber Barn, Settle
